Job Fair

I really enjoyed the job fair.  I went to several different tables.  I went to Arvest (which is my bank), Blue Cross Blue Shield, The Buckle, Target, U-Pack, Conway Police Department, Disney College Program, and a few others.  I wasn't really looking for a job but I was interesting in seeing what was out there and what people were looking for.  Most of the internships are for juniors in college anyway so it might be something I could do next year.

It was fun asking questions about what that particular person liked about their job and what their major was.  I am undecided in my major and the job fair was very encouraging to me because everyone kept telling me that I still had so much time to decide.  Also, most of them admitted to changing their major one or two times.  So overall I am very glad I went to the job fair.

Response to Phillip McGraw's We Teach People How To Treat Us.

What an excellent point!  I agree with Dr. Phil.  We choose how people treat us by how we respond to things.  If we respond in the desired way, we will continue to have people treat us in that manner.  If we respond in the undesired way than the treatment will stop.  It is a very simple concept that can be very helpful in relationships.  I think Dr. Phil did a very good job in explaining this.  It is very clear and it was easy to relate to the story he used as an example.

Response to Russell Simmons's White People

Racism is always an intense topic.  I makes me sad that it is still an issue in today's society.  It is a fact that black and white people are different, but it doesnt make sense to me why we treat one better than the other.  I think what Simmons had to say about the issue was very interesting and good.  I could tell he put a lot of thought into what he said.  My favorite quote was "Anger can side-track you.  It takes a lot of energy to be mad all the time".  This is very wise.  It is a waste of time to get mad at something like racism in today's society.  Simmons just brushes it off and continues his day.  He decides to be the bigger person.

However, one thing that Simmons doesnt mention that I think is important is that racism goes both ways.  I think some white people are rude because they think they are better when in reality they are not.  I also think that some black people are rude just because they assume the white person will be rude when in reality they might not be.

Response to The Reverend Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Imperative

I am not very interested in politics and things of that sort, so this essay wasn't that interesting to me.  I dont think The Reverend did a good job of presenting his information.  I thought it was boring.  Although he did do a good job of making it easy to understand.  "Equality in access to capital" is his goal.  To attain this, he believes that the private sector must work to make the marketplace more inclusive.  Like I already said, I don't have an interest in this and therefore do not have a strong opinion about it.

Response to Mary-Louise Parker's essay titled On Nudity

Well.. this was interesting.  It is not everyday that you read about nudity.  To give a little summary, Parker is asked to pose nude for a photo and she is very willing to do it.  It is freeing and enjoyable to her.  Her only request is that the editor pose nude as well.  In this writing, Parker tells her thoughts and emotions on posing nude and then the editor describes his thoughts and emotions.  I was intrigued because I have never talked to anyone who has posed nude for a photo so it was interesting to read what they each had to say.  As I already mentioned, Parker feels free when she poses nude.  I would not feel this way.  It would be embarrassing and degrading to me.
